VPI Externship
Student gains an in-depth understanding of how an animal health company operates and how pet insurance products are designed. Most importantly, the chosen applicant learns how veterinary clinicians, pet owners and pets all benefit from increased pet insurance utilization.
Student learns fundamental business concepts through interactions with executives, management, and key members of many different departments including Product Development, Claims, Underwriting, Compliance and Legal, Sales, Veterinary Services and Veterinary Relations. Student gains specific knowledge about pet insurance through an overview of VPI operations from product development and implementation to claims calculations and the customer experience. Student spends one day on hospital visits around the area with a VPI Field Representative and one day at Yorba Regional Animal Hospital for a day of hands-on experience; Yorba Regional Animal Hospital is one of Orange County's premier veterinary hospitals, offering students a wide array of exposure to full-service veterinary medical services and practice management concepts.
Veterinary Pet Insurance
Student will complete a mock claim calculation and submit a synopsis describing his/her experience as an extern. Student will receive feedback from VPI participants and VPI will complete any evaluation forms provided by the school. Key evaluation points may include, but are not limited to interest in learning and working, initiative, enthusiasm and professionalism, communication skills, adequate knowledge of medical problems and diseases, clinical techniques, procedural skills, analytical and diagnosis skills, and problem-solving skills.
7-9 hours per day, Mon-Fri of extern week – This is a paid internship.
