attracting new students
We focus our efforts on the freshman and work to continue a solid working relationship with the 2nd - 4th year students. Ideas to inform about VBMA and attract freshman include:
- letters send to home address before coming to campus for introduction
- cafe night poster displays
- announcements to the classes
- letters in the mailbox of each student
- Call out meeting during the first week of class
We have found that letters sent to home before students arrive on campus and our fall call out meeting are the best opportunity to attract new students.

A few suggestions
I attended the VBMA training session at the NAVC and this topic was brought up in a number of conversations. Some of the suggestions that were mentioned included having lunch meetings in the classroom (if that's allowed at your school), entice new members with free business cards with their paid membership, and have an enthusiastic officer talk to the students the first/second week of class about the club and then again the week of the meeting(s) to inform and remind of upcoming events. My chapter is talking about joining with another chapter in our region and co hosting an etiquette dinner for members only, and I've had a few non members seem really interested in joining VBMA to get involved. One last thing I'll mention is something I want to do to reach out to our seniors. They are about to graduate and have a lot of questions. I want to have a meeting just for them where they can ask a professional all the questions they have about finding a place to work, what to look for in an employee, salary negotiations, etc. I haven't looked into interest response from seniors yet but I imagine they'll be receptive. I'll let you know when I know more.
attracting new students
We are having problems attracting new students into the club this year, I think the membership from the incoming class is the lowest out of all 4 years we have, are other people having similar problems? if not what are your tactics for attracting more students?
We have already tried announcements to the class, advertising ourselves during our Club Day event, emailing them, giving out letters, even handing out ice cream to new members who join, however we have not had much luck.
Thanks for any help you can give.
