Business Models/Club Partnerships
This spring semester, our chapter decided to theme our meetings around business models for veterinary practices. This includes species-specific clinics such as equine only or feline only practices. We're also hosting meetings on small animal only practices and mobile clinic (both large and small animal) practices. We're partnering with other local chapter clubs, such as partnering with the local American Association of Equine Practitioners chapter to co-sponsor the equine-only management meeting.
We decided to do this to give our members the chance to see the challenges and successes of running specialized clinics and how that can compliment medical specialization. If someone wants to be an equine surgeon, they should also look into what it takes to run and work at an equine surgery referral clinic. These meetings are also giving students exposure to VBMA who may not be members. Many of our members are also part of these other clubs, but we don't have complete membership overlap. These partnerships will hopefully bring a business mindset and skills to people who otherwise were only concerned about learning the medicine aspect of being a veterinarian.
Has anyone else had success in working with other clubs on joint meetings?
