Convincing Leaders

Greetings Northeast Region from the UPenn VBMA!

It's two days from November, and we have seen a lot of successful events at our chapter: business education, "The Price is Right," Interview Success Mock Interview Dinner, and "Gender Economics" with Micaela Schaugnessy. But I want to share something seemingly minor but in fact quite important. Finding leaders for the VBMA is a renewed effort every year. We are students. We are busy, and coming in to first year veterinary school, students don't yet realize what they are capable of!

We recently had a relaxed, informal meeting for students interested in becoming VBMA leaders next year. Three attended. At first, I was disappointed, but then I realized leaders are a self-selecting group. The fact that these three students had the courage to dive in to such a time commitment and responsibility with two exams on the horizon is truly unique!

Developing a relationship with these future leaders over the next months while we select leadership will be a pleasure, not a job. Keep in mind that it is our task to enable these individuals to BE leaders, not to filter out people we think aren't.

Keep up the awesome work everyone!

Nathanael
