Elephant in the Room with Mr. Fritz Wood at ISU VBMA

ISU VBMA is very excited to host Mr. Fritz Wood on February 10,2010 for an evening 'elephant-in-the-room' session entitled 'Veterinary business GPS - confronting roadblocks and navigating to success.' Our past treasurer, Emily McDowell has been the work-horse on this project, as she got the idea from the National Meeting last year. It will be interesting to see how it differs from this years EITR session, and the EITR session she attended at the 2009 National Meeting.

The meeting will start out with a presentation entitled 'Make a good living as a veterinary professional,' followed by 'What to look for in an employer - adding value as an associate doctor.' A dinner will be served, followed by table discussions. Emily made pamphlets that were stuffed in all student mailboxes, and has also sent emails to students announcing the meeting. The meeting is being sponsored by Merial, the David R. Task Professorship in Entrepreneurial studies and the IVMA. Registration before Jan. 27th is $10, and $25 after that date.

We are hoping that students will really take a lot away from this meeting...stay tuned for results! Thanks!

Can we borrow your idea?

"What to look for in an employer - adding value as an associate doctor." This is a topic that many of our students have expressed as being more interested in. Most of them do not want to go an open up a practice asap right out of school and prefer to work somewhere else for a little while. So how do they decide where to work? Who is going to help them get started? What salary do they look for? How do they negoatiate that salary based on what they can offer the clinic? We at this chapter hope to bring this topic covered by somebody, if not the same Fritz Wood, at some point. Thanks!
