Gulf coast and staffing
The gulf coast oil slick reminds me that often practices have staff members, either veterinarians or techs, who are prepared to go to disaster areas to help out. During Katrina, the veterinary emergency response teams were activated and many practices had to make do without some of their staff. What is your opinion of this? Would you allow your technician or associate time off to help at the gulf? Would you give them paid time off? Would you go yourself? Would you explicitly forbid such excursions?
