Negotiating Your Salary

Hey!

So I am very excited about all that is getting done this year with Tuskegee's VBMA. We have had several GREAT speakers! Not only have the speakers been great, but student attendance to the events has been amazing. We are averaging around 100+ students to each speaker.

Our most recent speaker was Dr.Dan Green from Boehringer-Ingelheim. Dr.Green provided information on a very informative topic- Negotiating the best salary. This topic really hit home at an important time for our seniors. Dr.Green visited on December 1st, at which time, most of our seniors had finished taking the NAVLE and are getting ready to start securing jobs for their future. Dr.Green helped walk all the students through the highlights of what they need to be thinking about before negotiating, how they should approach the task of negotiating, and when to give/take. Dr.Green was kind enough to leave a copy of the presentation for the students so when they need a reminder of how to negotiate, all they have to do is to look at the powerpoint! We were very fortunate to have such a great speaker with an amazing topic!

We are looking forward to many more speakers this next semester!!!

Questions...

Ashley,

This sounds like it was a great talk! How did the students that aren't 4th years respond to this? Did they stay engaged? I really like this idea - getting to the true nuts and bolts of salaries and negotiating for them - and wanted to get your take on how the members from the different classes reacted. We've done something where this has been alluded to, but did not really get into the process itself.

The other years seemed to get a lot out of the topic as well. Everyone stayed fairly interested the entire time. The majority of our feedback was from the senior class, but from watching the students, everyone seemed to get something out of it.
