For this quarter’s post I wanted to discuss an interesting veterinary topic and integrate it with business.

What are your thoughts on recent legislation or a current issue and the potential impact it has on business, practice management, animal health, your decisions on the best treatment, etc.?

For example, in Oklahoma, they recently passed a bill allowing “nonveterinary” personnel to perform equine dental procedures. If this is being discussed in your state or has already been in place, what problems does this pose to equine veterinary practices, or is there a problem?

Other topics could include, but are not limited to:
The subtherapeutic use of antibiotics as growth promotants in livestock
Animal rights vs. Animal welfare and the implications of changing “ownership” to “guardianship”
The ban on horse slaughter
Veterinary student debt
