Shawn McVey- Speaker for fall?

Hey guys,

Our chapter is looking for funding opportunities to bring the speaker that the VBMA national board had at lunch. I think Shawn would really speak to some issues important to the next (our) generation of veterinarians. I was wondering if any of you guys would like to try and go in together on some of his travel. If get more shored up on bringing him out I'll update you guys. I think his day speaking fee is like 4 grand or something, so it would be a large initial cost.
We're pretty much shooting to partner with SCAVMA so it would be a major event.

Naysa,

Shawn McVey at Cornell

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that Shawn will be coming to Cornell for our New York State Veterinary Conference in early october. He will be hosting a full day of lectures sponsored by our chapter and school. Last year we tried to model this huge event at our conference after elephant in the room and had a ton of different lecturers, but since McVey was so expensive and you get him for the whole day, we have decided to just have him as our speaker and have him lecturing on different topics throughout the day. Our student services offices are helping fund it with money available for the conference. We are really excited about this opportunity! If you are in the area or want to come, I'm sure I'll have more information closer to the date.

Shawn McVey - management solutions

Ladies and gents,

I see that nobody has added to this post yet, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

After speaking with Shawn's event manager regarding the $4,500 event fee, I proposed that Shawn visit all the schools in the Western Region sequentially for a single honorarium. Unfortunately, it sounds like Shawn's schedule is too busy to allow such a prolonged visit to our region.

However, Bryan did mention that if we could condense all the events into a 5 day period, it might be more feasible. It would be extremely difficult to have Shawn visit 5 schools in as many days. With that in mind, are any of the other schools in the region open to the idea of holding either (a) a multi-day program held at a single central location, or (b) joining WSU in bringing Shawn to 2 or 3 of the schools in our region?

I will continue to work with Bryan and Shawn to bring their expertise to our region!

Thanks,

Shawn McVey

Hello All,

We're trying to orchestrate having Shawn be our speaker for a one-day symposium at WesternU. However, even with that in mind, his fee is making my board a little bit squeemish and unsure about paying for it, even with joining up with SCAVMA! Until we get the green light from SCAVMA, and think up an AMAZING fundraising idea, we're not 100% committed yet; however, I REALLY want to make this happen! We were thinking of hosting our symposium on October 16 if everything works out. According to his schedue, that allows time for him to speak at neighboring schools I believe.

I'll keep you posted.
