Our chapter hosted a speaker from the law firm of Dewitt, Ross and Stevens. She gave us an outside perspective on veterinary medicine as a profession with legal regulations and an inside perspective on the legal side. Some aspects of good business practice overlap with good legal record-keeping, and they both overlap with good clinical practice. Clear, legible records are invaluable, as is a good method for keeping them in order for three years (the Wisconsin statute of limitations; know your own state's rules). Overall, it was a valuable talk, and the students who attended came away with a list of resources for future reference.
