This quarter we had the distinction of hosting a talk co-hosted by Christina Lopes and Benjamin Lewis, co-founders of the One Health Company. This organization connects veterinary clinics with ongoing clinical trials, using patient protocols equivalent to the ones used in human pediatrics in order to advance both human and veterinary medicine.
Perhaps the most remarkable part about this talk was that Benjamin Lewis founded this company (after a couple of others) while in veterinary school. So in addition to giving a solid discussion on finance works in the veterinary business world, this talk was very empowering because he showed how to start your own business in 5 (five!) minutes, and had students break out into groups to generate their own ideas which they then presented to the class.
Even though not all of our VBMA graduates are going to be entrepreneurs, almost all of them will benefit by realizing that they have the power to innovate in their own clinic (or other career option). That ability to empower veterinary students to go out and be the face of the future is one of the most powerful things that VBMA provides.
