Student Learning Objectives:

The objective of our externship is for students to gain knowledge and experience regarding the issues affecting veterinary medicine, including analysis of emerging business and legal issues, employer/employee contract negotiations, the buying and selling of veterinary practices, partnerships, veterinary malpractice and animal law issues.

Description of Activities:

During this program, our externs will work closely with Charlotte LaCroix DVM, JD, and her staff by participating in conferences with clients to learn first-hand the concerns faced by practice owners and there employees. They will analyze employment agreements and learn what makes a fair deal and assist with the drafting of new agreements, settlements and legal communications. Externs will also research and write about a topic that interests them for publication.

Complete evaluation forms provided by schools as well as regular feed back to students regarding project progress.

Expected Time Commitment:

Typically a business work week is expected which is defined as, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
